“Welcoming and Advanced Schools in Cairo and Assiut Governorates”

Every child deserves the opportunity to learn in a safe, welcoming, and inclusive environment.

Through the Welcoming and Inclusive Schools in Cairo and Assiut project, Ataa Fund is helping children with disabilities access quality, equitable education by transforming public schools into inclusive learning environments where every student has the opportunity to succeed.

Rather than treating inclusion as a formal requirement, the project promotes a comprehensive model built on accessibility, teacher capacity building, assistive technology, and supportive learning environments that empower students to actively participate in their education.

The initiative serves students with disabilities from Grade 1 of primary school through Grade 9 (Preparatory Stage), ensuring that schools are equipped to support diverse learning needs while improving educational outcomes for all.

310 Students with disabilities have directly benefited from inclusive education services.

School Attendance

84% of students with disabilities in Assiut regularly attend school for more than 65% of the academic year.
54% of students with disabilities in Cairo regularly attend school for more than 65% of the academic year.

Improved Literacy Skills

Among primary school students with visual impairments:

85% in Assiut achieved more than 75% improvement in Braille and assistive reading and writing skills.
55% in Cairo achieved more than 75% improvement.

Improved Pre-Academic Skills

Among students with intellectual disabilities:

71% in Assiut achieved more than 65% improvement.
33% in Cairo achieved more than 65% improvement.

A Lasting Impact

While 310 students directly benefited during the project period, the impact extends far beyond these numbers.

By strengthening inclusive school systems, training educators, and improving learning environments, the project creates sustainable opportunities for future generations of children with disabilities. Every child who enrolls in these schools in the years ahead will benefit from a more accessible, inclusive, and supportive educational experience.
