Ataa Charitable Investment Fund for Persons with Disabilities Signs Cooperation Protocol with Minia University and CEOSS to Implement Accessibility Works at the Faculties of Law and Arts
In a new step toward supporting equal educational opportunities and enhancing accessibility across higher education institutions, Ataa Charitable Investment Fund for Persons with Disabilities signed a cooperation protocol with Minia University and the Coptic Evangelical Organization for Social Services (CEOSS).
The protocol is part of the “Towards Inclusive Egyptian Universities Phase Two” project and aims to implement physical accessibility works at the Faculties of Law and Arts at Minia University, facilitating the movement of students with disabilities and improving their access to the various facilities within both faculties.
The protocol was signed by Sherif Samy, Chairman of Ataa Fund; Prof. Dr. Essam Farahat, President of Minia University; and Susan Sedky, Director of Local Development at CEOSS. The agreement reflects the parties’ joint commitment to developing the physical environment of both faculties in accordance with engineering accessibility standards.
With the support and funding of Ataa Fund, the planned works include upgrading and developing the entrances to the Faculties of Law and Arts, constructing and modifying ramps, and adapting the pathways leading to buildings, lecture halls, and restrooms. These improvements will help students with disabilities move more easily and independently throughout both faculties.
The works also include adapting a number of lecture halls and classrooms, rehabilitating restrooms and preparing them for safe use, installing appropriate grab bars near washbasins and toilets, and fitting handrails on both sides of ramps. Protective barriers will also be installed around external ramps, in addition to other physical accessibility improvements based on the actual needs of both faculties.
This cooperation builds on Ataa Fund’s ongoing efforts to improve physical accessibility across Egyptian universities by funding and implementing projects that remove physical barriers facing students with disabilities and adapt educational facilities to enable them to navigate university campuses and use their facilities with greater independence and safety.
The protocol also highlights the importance of partnerships among government institutions, civil society organizations, and stakeholders working in the disability sector. Such partnerships help bring together expertise and resources and direct them toward projects that create a tangible impact on students, while contributing to the development of an inclusive university environment that responds to their needs and supports their equal participation in the educational process.
Through these projects, Ataa Fund continues to advance the rights of persons with disabilities and promote accessibility and inclusion across various fields. These efforts contribute to providing fairer educational opportunities and building inclusive university environments in which students with disabilities can benefit fully from educational services and facilities.
Ataa is the first charitable investment fund established in Egypt, with a dedicated focus on supporting persons with disabilities. Its founders adopted this model to revive the concept of the charitable investment endowment and ensure the sustainability of funding. Under this model, the principal amount invested in the Fund is preserved, while the returns generated from its investment are directed toward charitable and social purposes.
The model also ensures a clear separation between the allocation of funds and the implementation of charitable and social projects. Meanwhile, the Fund’s investment portfolio is managed by a specialized asset management company licensed by the Financial Regulatory Authority (FRA), providing stronger oversight and enhancing the Fund’s overall performance.
Individuals, companies, and other legal entities can invest in charitable giving by purchasing certificates in Ataa Charitable Investment Fund for Persons with Disabilities through branches of several Egyptian commercial banks, as well as Nasser Social Bank.
